Water Quality Standards; Data Evaluation, Assessment, and Review; and Data Management

Water quality in Louisiana is managed under the two broad areas of surface water and groundwater. Surface water management seeks to protect the quality of all waters of the state, including rivers, streams, bayous, lakes, reservoirs, wetlands, estuaries, and many other types of surface water. The Aquifer Evaluation and Protection Unit seeks to protect the quality of all waters found in underground aquifers as well as the surface water sources of that groundwater. For more information on surface water quality data, standards, and assessment please email Water Quality Contact.

Current Events

FINAL 2016 Louisiana Water Quality Inventory: Integrated Report (305(b)/303(d)) - On February 10, 2017 the 2016 Louisiana Water Quality Inventory: Integrated Report (305(b)/303(d)) was approved by EPA with one Integrated Report Category (IRC) revision to one subsegment. All other portions of the report have been fully approved by EPA. In addition to the changes made by EPA, IRCs for eight water body impairment combinations were changed from IRC 5 (TMDL required) to IRC 4a (TMDL completed). These can be identifed by IRC 41 in the IR Category column. The TMDLs for these impairments were identified during EPA's review period in 2016. The assessments contained in the report are now considered final.
