Commissioner of Administration Establishes
Louisiana Buy Recycled Program
Louisiana Commissioner of Administration, Mark C. Drennen, established a Buy Recycled Procurement Program for State Agencies on November 4, 1999. The Buy Recycled Procurement Program is specifically designed to establish a statewide preference program, to develop a promotion program, to develop certification procedures, and to establish procedures for monitoring effectiveness.
Each Executive Department agency is to designate a "Buy Recycled Procurement Program Official" and to participate in quarterly Buy Recycled meetings.
In his memo, Commissioner Drennen noted that, "Governor Foster promotes the use of recycled products whenever practicable. State government purchasing of recycled content products creates markets for materials collected in local government and commercial; recycling programs. It also promotes the continued manufacture of these products, thus completing the recycling loop."
Other state and local agencies were also encouraged to participate.
